Great Lakes Experience Festival, July 28th at River Fest Park
by Juliana Janson
It takes a lot for me to willingly post a picture of myself online, but I had to “crow” about my experience at the Great Lakes Experience(GLE) Festival on Saturday, July 28th at River Fest Park. (My apologies for the bad pun, but I couldn’t resist!) Barny

As I was making my way through the exhibits, I spotted a beautiful European Barn Owl named Barney, who is actually a female. Pete Lotz from Skyhunters told me about Barney and what a great disposition she had, and then offered to let me hold her. What a treat it was to hold such a beautiful creature. The best part came after we took the pictures when I got to touch her! She was incredibly soft and didn’t mind being touched at all, having been bred in captivity. It was the highlight of my day at the festival.

As I was driving home that evening, I reflected on all of the great organizations, filled with people who are passionate about fish and wildlife and keeping all of our environments healthy. The GLE Festival is a treasure for our community that brings hands on experiences and, even more importantly, knowledgeable people to educate kids of all ages on their areas of expertise.

I would like to personally thank all of the exhibitors, vendors and particularly our sponsors (especially my friends at Verizon who generously sponsored this event for the second year in a row) who made our festival possible this year.
